College in the High School (CiHS)
College in the High School is a program where students earn college credits by taking classes at their high school. The courses offered are part of a typical high school student’s schedule. The college credits available can be applied toward many college or university general undergraduate requirements. Students stay enrolled in their high school; take courses with their high school teachers; elect to have their high school grades applied to a college credited course; and there is no tuition or fees for books, parking, etc..

EWU in the High School is available for freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. There are no ACT score, SAT score, or GPA requirements. However, some EWU in the HS courses do require math or English placement testing, and some courses have prerequisites.
For more information about which EWU courses are offered at your high school and what the prerequisites are, talk to your counselor.
Yes. Students can earn credit with a D or 0.7. However, we encourage students who are earning less than a C (2.0) to drop the course so that they don’t risk academic probation when they enter a college/university full-time.
When a student drops the course because of a lower grade, their grade won’t go on their college transcript, but it can still go on their high school transcript and count toward high school graduation.
High School Credits: Every 5 college credits with the CHS program counts for 1 high school credit. Some courses will generate more high school credits.
College Credits: College credits earned in the College in the High School program generate a college transcript and transfer to most colleges or universities.
College credits earned in the CHS program are widely accepted in Washington State colleges and universities. Learn more here:
Transferring credits to private colleges or out-of-state colleges or universities:
Transfer crediting varies from institution to institution. Search college name and transfer equivalency guide to research transferability of credits to potential institutions.
All classes are taught on school campus during the regular scheduled school day.
There is no cost to students.
High School transcripts will show CiHS and can be requested through the school registrar.
College transcripts must be requested from the school in which the course is offered. (i.e. AP Biology/Biology 101 - request through CWU)
Currently, we are offering 36 credits and working to grow the program for future years.
