RUNNING START
To do our best to accommodate individual student needs and goals, we are allowing students to participate in partial Running Start for the 23-24 school year. This is a pilot program, and we can’t guarantee that students will be able to be enrolled in Running Start for the 24-25 school year. The intent of this pilot is to determine how student participation will impact our unique school programs and the opportunities available for full-time HeLa students. In order to be an eligible participant, you will need to have meet the following criteria:
All eligibility requirements and form completion as stated in the Evergreen School District Running Start Policy that can be found here. In addition to this:
All Henrietta Lacks students must take at least one pathway and an additional class here at HeLa throughout the year. This will allow them to take a maximum of 16 credits at Clark per quarter. We strongly encourage students to start small with college course loads to ensure student success and staying on track to graduate on time.
All Running Start Students must have their own transportation to and from their college level classes. This could be a parking pass here on campus, family transportation or public transportation.
Running Start classes, including transportation to and from cannot interfere with Henrietta Lacks class time or internship/pathway opportunities. This includes changes in our unique schedule based on 4-day weeks and early release days. Once you pick a pathway you are committed to that pathway for an entire year. You are not able to change pathways midyear.
Running Start students are not permitted to stay on the high school campus during the school day unless they are in a high school class.
If you meet the requirements, you will need to set up an appointment with your counselor (parents are highly encouraged to attend) to sign the necessary forms and discuss your schedule. Counselors will be available for these appointments August 15th and 16th from 8-2:30pm on a drop in basis, but are out of the office for the summer. If you have any questions, please email Allison Harding at allison.harding@evergreenps.org. Thank you.
The Running Start program allows high school juniors and seniors to earn college credits while completing their high school education - saving students money while advancing their education. Students are able to attend college, at minimal cost, while still living at home as a high school student.
Students are able to select courses that challenge them academically and provide real-world applications. Many students earn their associate’s degree and leave prepared to start a career or transfer to a four-year institution to pursue their bachelor’s degree.
